Retired Commissioner of Police Frederick "Penny" Bean

 

We are deeply saddened to report that retired Commissioner of Police, Fred "Penny" Bean has passed in KEMH.    "Penny" joined the Bermuda Police in 1956 as a young constable and he rose through the ranks to became our first Bermuda born Commissioner of Police in 1982 - a position he held until his retirement in 1991.

We will publish more details as they are received.

We extend our very  sincere condolences to his wife, Romaine, and to all the members of his family.

We have received the following announcement from the BPS regarding funeral arrangements for retired Commissioner Fred "Penny" Bean, together with details of a Condolence Book available at Hamilton Police Station from 9am - 4pm today, Friday  14th December 2018.

Condolence Book for Former Commissioner of Police Frederick Bean

The passing of former Commissioner of Police Frederick “Penny” Bean OBE QPM represents a monumental loss for the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) and the local community at large.

To pay honour and respect to the first Bermudian Commissioner of Police, a number of tributes have been organised within the BPS and publicly to celebrate his life and legacy.

Tomorrow, Friday, December 14th from 9am until 4pm there will be an official condolence book placed at Hamilton Police Station for BPS staff and members of the community to sign.

All police flags will be flown at half-mast from 8am Friday until 8pm Monday.

The funeral for Commissioner Bean will held at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street in the City of Hamilton 2pm Monday, December 17th.
