Sergeant Corey Cross
Served from 1994-2005

Corey is now a Relationship Manager Associate at HSBC

Corey was born in Paget, attended Paget Primary, Warwick Academy and the Bermuda College. He was used to a disciplined environment having served as a Junior Leader while at Warwick Academy, and spending two years in the Bermuda Regiment.

His good friend Milton Douglas had already joined the Bermuda Police and no doubt had an influence on Corey deciding that the Police Service offered both job security and an interesting career. He attended Training Course #49 and was then posted to Eastern Uniform where his first Sergeant was Huron Vidal. Chief Inspector Winston Esdaille was OIC.

Two years later he was transferred to the Task Force, led by Sgt Stuart Crockwell and Corey found this to be an interesting and “high adrenalin” change involving the arrest of drug dealers and assisting in many Police actions requiring extra manpower.

Corey spent time in Central Uniform doing the normal duties – Government House, the Premier’s Residence, and general patrols on the beat and as duty driver. During a second spell on the Task Force it morphed into the Narcotics Enforcement Team. He went on to postings in CID, Traffic, and then Cycle Squad with Terry Maxwell where he really enjoyed the investigative side of the job. He recalls when he and other Cycle Squad officers were seconded to the Murder Squad to assist with major investigations, resulting in Cycle Squad being renamed the Vehicle Crime Unit.

When the Police conducted a major investigation into the Bermuda Housing Corporation, Corey was transferred to the Commercial Crime Unit along with Terry Maxwell, Robin Sherwood, and Grant Tomkins, and they were joined by Neil Tunnacliffe who came out from the U.K. on a 5 year contract as an experienced CID investigator.

On promotion to Sergeant in 2002, Corey was transferred to Western Uniform on “B” Watch, with Martin Weeks as Watch Inspector, and Othneal Haynes as Station Commander.

Corey resigned in 2005 to pursue a career in Banking, working first in Compliance at HSBC, and now as a Relationship Manager Associate for HSBC Corporate Banking.   He is married with two daughters, aged 12 and 6.

Corey has maintained his close links with the Bermuda Police Service, and served for severel years on our Bermie Ex-Po Committee.
