Interment of John Joe and Joan Sheehy
Mrs and Mrs John Joe and Joan Sheehy on their wedding day - October 1959
Anyone who worked in CID during the 1960's - 1970's will always remember legendary detective John Joe Sheehy who retired as Superintendent in charge of CID in 1985. An Irishman through and through, John Joe was a major influence on all those who worked under him in CID. He left Bermuda and settled in Texas for before passing away there in the late 1990's. Before he died, John Joe requested that his ashes and those of his beloved wife Joan, be brought back to Bermuda to be interred in the Police Cemetery at Prospect.
It has taken some years for his children to return to Bermuda, but Maureen and Michael have arranged to carry our John Joe's wishes at 5pm on Tuesday 23rd July and will inter their parents ashes, immediately followed by a reception being held at the Senior Officer's Mess. Friends and colleagues of John Joe and Joan are cordially invited to attend.
There will no doubt be many former officers who have fond memories of working with John Joe but will not be able to attend the reception. If you have any comments that you would like to have passed on to Maureen and Michael please free to add them to the "Comments" section at the foot of this column, or email us at info@expobermuda.com and we will be sure to pass them on to the family.
UPDATE - The interment and reception were both held on the afternoon of Tuesday 23rd July 2013. CLICK HERE for details in our "Interesting Articles" column.
