ExPo President Cal Smith

Dear EXPO Colleagues,

You will be aware that policing concepts and strategies have evolved over the years. However, the principles of policing will always be the same, providing service to others and policing with the consent of the people. Sir Robert Peel said it best, “The Police are the Public and the Public are the Police.”

It is to this end we are inviting you to submit a brief summary of your Bermuda Police Force/Service career along with your policing ideas (750-1000 words) to support the theme, “if I was the Commissioner of Police today I would …....... to assist in Making Bermuda Safer.

We want to hear from you as we are likely to receive valuable information to improve policing here in Bermuda as a result of your input. In addition, as former police officers we want you to know that you are valued and empower you to reach out to us with your suggestions and ideas. In recognition of your input the BPS will endeavour to implement part or all of your initiative or idea, and later invite you to join Senior Command for dinner to further discuss your idea(s). The BPS would also like to include a feature (video etc.) of you being interviewed as to your recollection of your time with the BPS, and any values and advice you may have for the new generation of officers.

To take part; email your submissions to EXPO President and Commissioners Staff Officer Calvin Smith at csmith@bps.bm on or before 1630hrs, Friday 13 June 2020, with the winners announced on Friday 20 June 2020.

Go ahead, we challenge you!!! Be heard, submit your ideas today.

EDITORS NOTE  -  As you will see from Cal's letter the winners will be invited to a dinner with Senior Command fo further discuss your ideas.  We would be delighted to receive input from our members wherever you are in the World,  but the invitation to dinner and involvement in a video feature would be for those of us resident here in Bermuda.  However, if you are living elsewhere and you would like to participate in this most worthwhile endeavour, then in addition to making a wirtten submission you may want to also submit your own video offering advice to Bermuda's new generation of officers.
