Annual Bermie Expo Cocktail Reception 2014

We held our annual Bermuda Ex-Police Officers Cocktail Reception at the Officers Mess, Prospect, on Saturday 25th January 2014, and this had to be one of the best attended and most successful receptions for years.

We had over 50 people in attendance, including Commissioner Michael DeSilva who had just returned to the Island after a trip to the UK,  and also Assistant Commissioner Paul Wright who kindly came in case Commissioner DeSilva had been unable to attend.  You can view photos of the reception in our Photo Gallery.

It was great to see Michael Phillips, accompanied by his daughter Jennifer. Mike has some serious health issues but made the effort to attend the reception.  Needless to say, it was a ‘rowdy’ evening with old friends and colleagues exchanging stories about the good old days!

Judging by the comments made by everyone, the food was excellent with thanks to Dave and Patsy Cook for organizing the catering.  Bar service, kindly provided by Inspectors Scott Devine and Peter Stableford, was also first class.

Our next official function will probably be the Annual Summer BBQ at a date to be set, although we hold our AGM in March.   During a short speech Roger Sherratt mentioned that Bermuda Expo had recently been approached by a representative of an organization by the name of LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) which is sending a retired senior police officer to Bermuda in late February to meet with groups on the issue of legalizing drugs in the U.S. and elsewhere (please see a separate article under Latest News) giving more details of this organization.

LEAP has specifically requested a meeting with Bermuda’s retired and former police officers, and we would be interested in hearing from any of our former colleagues who may be interested in attending such a meeting.

Please see our latest “Who, When and Where” photo on our front page to see if you can work out the answer to our question!
