Young P.C. Webster Furbert in ceremonial uniform

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our oldest former police officers,  Webster Eugene Furbert, who served in the Bermuda Police from 1953 -1964.  Webster’s first posting was to St. George’s where he worked on the beat before being appointed as Parish Constable in Hamilton and Smith’s Parishes.  He also worked in Central Division (Hamilton) and in Western Division (Somerset).

Webster has been described a a “gentle giant” by another former P.C. John “Alfie” Fox who has written an article published in our "Then and Now" column (CLICK HERE to view it).  Alfie wrote that he was lucky to be assigned to do night patrols with Webster and describes one incident in particular when Webster came to his rescue in Chick's Bar.  "Alfie" also noted that Webster had "perfect pitch" - a description we have never seen before in describing a fellow police officer!

We offer our sincere condolences to Webster’s wife of 60 years, Cecilia, to their children Gloria, Wendell, Myron and  Brian, and to all their loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday October 11th at 11 a.m. at Crawl Gospel Hall on North Shore, Hamilton Parish.
