Sergeant Wang Sonson
It was with the deepest sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear friend and colleague former Sergeant Wang Sonson on 12th June 2026 following a lengthy illness. Wang served in the Bermuda Police for 10 years from November 2006 until November 2016, and had previously served in the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
Wang was a popular member of the BPS who worked in various departments as outlined in the Tribute to him kindly provided by Commissioner Darrin Simons which is published below.
Despite his courageous battle with cancer Wang’s spirits were considerably lifted when, on 19th May this year, his beloved Premier football team, Arsenal, finally managed to secure the Premier League title after almost tripping up in their last few games.

Dear Colleagues,
It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of former Bermuda Police Service officer, Sergeant 2311 Wang Sonson, on Friday, 12 June 2026.
Wang joined the Bermuda Police Service in November 2006 on Localisation Course 67, having previously served with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force. He completed nine years of service there, including six years in the Drug Unit, before bringing his experience and specialist training to Bermuda.
Over the course of his career, Wang served in several operational areas, including Central Patrol, Western Patrol, the Community Action Team, and the Police Support Unit, where he spent much of his service and established himself as a highly capable officer. He was known for his professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic, consistently delivering high-quality work with minimal supervision while supporting colleagues around him.
Wang continued to develop professionally, completing a range of specialist courses, including CID training, FBI Street Gang Investigations, Laser and Radar Operations, and Firearms Levels I and II. He was promoted to Sergeant on 25 September 2013. His commitment to personal development extended beyond policing. In 2012, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Huddersfield.
Wang was respected across the organisation. In 2014, Assistant Commissioner Weekes noted his strong skill set and his active role in mentoring junior Bermudian officers. That respect remained consistent throughout his career.
Outside of policing, Wang was known for his sense of humour and his love of football. Friends recall that he fancied himself a talented player...despite strong evidence to the contrary! He was a dedicated Arsenal supporter and took pride in following his team.
Wang passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends. Throughout his illness, he showed the same strength and resilience that defined his policing career.
He completed his service with the Bermuda Police Service in November 2016, having given ten years of dedicated service to Bermuda.
On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, I extend sincere condolences to his mother, Ursula; his wife, Firma; his daughter, Dominique; and his extended family, friends, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father.
Wang’s contribution to policing in Bermuda will be remembered by those who served with him, those he mentored, and those who knew him personally.
His funeral will take place in Saint Lucia on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at the Labayee Seventh-day Adventist Church. Details of the livestream will be shared once confirmed.
